Visiting Patients

Visitors and carers are very welcome for patients at Queen’s and King George
Hospitals. We value the role you play in providing comfort to our patients and helping
their recovery.
We also recognise that having a friend or relative in hospital can be very difficult for you and we want to reassure you about the care we provide.

Please help us provide the best possible care for our patients by following the guidance below. This aims to help visitors and patients get the best from their visits, while making sure patients get enough time for rest and recovery.

Visiting times are generally between 10.30am and 7.30pm and can be checked on this website by following the links below. If the times are difficult for you, please tell the nurse in charge of the ward as it may be possible to arrange alternative times.

Infection Prevention and Control considerations

Anyone who is feeling unwell, has a cold or has had any diarrhoea and/or vomiting within the previous 48 hours is asked to refrain from entering the in-patient ward areas.
You are asked to clean your hands before meeting the patient you are visiting and on leaving. This can be done using soap and water at the hand washing basins or using the hand hygiene gel located at ward and bay entrances and by bed spaces. Where patients are being nursed using isolation measures (that is, to prevent the spread of infection to or from the patient) any additional requirements will be explained by the nursing staff.
Please do not sit on the patients’ beds but use chairs provided.
Please do not use the patients’ toilets on the wards but use the public toilets which are clearly signed.
Where a ward has an outbreak of infection. The Ward Manager and Infection
Control Team will have the right to close the ward to all visitors in order to manage and contain the infection as quickly as possible. The ward manager will use their discretion where there are requests to visit patients during an outbreak situation, for example where patients are receiving terminal care, where the patient has special needs or where visitors have travelled long distances.
