Teenage Pregnancy Team
We are a team of midwives and a support worker, who work
with young women, their partners and families. If you think you are
pregnant, you could go to your GP, do a home test or go to one of the sexual
health
clinics in your area (all of these services are confidential). Your
GP can refer you or you can refer directly to the hospital on 0208 970 5757,
or
to a member of the Teenage Pregnancy Team on one of the numbers below.
Knowing you are pregnant early is good for lots of reasons. It gives you
time to think about what you want to do, and it means you can have all the
tests which women are offered in early pregnancy.
We will then book you into our care and you will get an appointment for
a scan at the hospital. We will see you regularly for antenatal checks at
one of our relaxed youth venues in your area. As well as you visiting us
for checks, we will visit you at home, where we will discuss your labour
and birth and you will have the chance to ask any questions and let us know
what you want as your birth plan. This visit is on a one to one basis. As
well as the visit above, our support worker will visit you at home at around
21 weeks into your pregnancy, to discuss sexual health, pregnancy awareness,
and health promotion.
If you do not wish us to visit you at home we can arrange to meet you somewhere
more convenient for you.
We are able to care for many of our young mums in labour and we will give
you information to help you choose the best place for you to give birth to
your baby whether at home or in hospital.
After the birth we will visit you for up to a month.
During your pregnancy and after delivery of your baby, we can introduce
you to services that may be useful to you, such as; smoking cessation, breastfeeding
workshops, parent education and family support, and also groups and facilities
for young mums in your area.
